Arun Yogiraj is a Famous Sculptor who hails from Mysore, Karnataka. Arun comes from a family of well-known sculptors in Mysore, spanning five generations. Arun Yogiraj was born and raised in Mysore, Karnataka, where sculpting ran in his family. His father, Yogiraj, and grandfather, Basavanna Shilpi, were both respected sculptors. Even as a child, Arun had a natural talent for carving. He pursued an MBA and briefly worked in a private company, but his passion for sculpting pulled him back. Since 2008, he’s been dedicated to his carving career.
Arun gained attention for his remarkable works, including a 30-foot statue of Subhash Chandra Bose, placed near the Amar Jawan Jyoti behind India Gate. This statue was a tribute to Bose on his 125th birth anniversary, backed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s wish. Arun gifted a smaller statue of Bose to the Prime Minister, earning appreciation.
Before this, Arun had crafted a 12-foot statue of Adi Shankaracharya in Kedarnath, a 21-foot tall Hanuman statue in Mysore, a 15-foot tall statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and various other statues and idols. His work earned him honours from multiple organizations, including recognition from the royal family of Mysore.
On 1 January 2024, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi said, “The selection of the idol for the Prana Pratishtapana of Lord Rama in Ayodhya has been finalized. The idol of Lord Rama, carved by renowned sculptor of our country Yogiraj Arun, will be installed in Ayodhya. The minister also shared a photograph of Yogiraj posing alongside the idol of Lord Ram.
