In an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court, a 31-year-old man named Obi Sunday was brought before the court on an assault charge.

The defendant, whose address wasn’t disclosed, faced allegations of assaulting Ilesanmi Taiwo on December 26 in Ikere-Ekiti, reportedly stabbing him with a broken bottle during a fight, causing severe injuries to Taiwo’s neck and right hand.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Sodiq Adeniyi, highlighted the offence as a violation of Section 255 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

Requesting an adjournment to prepare the case and present witnesses, the prosecutor asked for time to study the case file.

Although the defendant pleaded not guilty, his counsel, Mrs. Kike Owolabi, requested bail, assuring the court that Sunday wouldn’t evade trial.

Magistrate Dolapo Babalogbon granted bail to the defendant at a sum of N100,000, with one surety in a similar amount. The case was adjourned until January 31 for further proceedings.
