An 18-year-old man, Yusuf Haruna, has been remanded in a correctional facility by a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kano for allegedly stabbing Imam Malam Sani Mohammed to death.

The incident was reported by Musa Yunusa on December 31, 2023, at Jakara Police Division, Kano.

The prosecutor, Mrs. Fatima Ado-Ahmad, stated that the defendant attacked and fatally stabbed the 45-year-old Imam with a sharp knife in his back around 7 p.m.

The victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a doctor.

The defendant denied the charges, but the prosecutor argued that the offense contravened Section 221 of the Penal Code.

Chief Magistrate Binta Galadanchi ordered Yusuf Haruna’s remand in a correctional center and scheduled the matter for further mention on January 31.

Additionally, Yusuf’s father, Haruna Sani, was also arraigned before the court for allegedly hiding his son following the murder. Haruna Sani pleaded not guilty to the charge of screening an offender, contrary to Section 167 of the Penal Code.

The court remanded him in a correctional center and adjourned the matter until January 31 for a ruling on the bail application.
